Lies or Laughs: Humorous and Entertaining

I recently discovered the app “Lies or Laughs,” an AI content generator that was released within the last few weeks. This innovative app offers four distinct sections, each with its own specific categories and subjects for your entertainment:

  • Facts – Generates random amusing facts that can be entertaining, though they probably won’t elicit laughter when shared aloud.
  • Hacks – Offers intriguing content that can often be humorous, showcasing the app’s diverse comedic capabilities.
  • Quacks – This section specializes in generating jokes, many of which are genuinely funny and engaging for users.
    • My only complaint about this section would be how often it would generate a question without an answer.
  • Tracks – The feature I explored least, it generates rhymes and raps that could use some refinement.

As a brand-new app, there is room for improvement and potential changes, so any critiques mentioned may be addressed in future updates.

The user interface is well thought out and complements the content provided. The side swipe gestures on cards with rounded corners and smooth gradients make it easy to interact with the AI generator. Users can also conveniently share content by tapping and holding on said cards.

One drawback of Lies of Laughs is that it currently requires an internet connection to generate content, making it more of an access point rather than an independent content generator. While I suspect the content probably isn’t pre-generated, there are some inconsistencies in the app’s functionality that could use further development.

The price of the app is relatively high, especially considering some of the issues I noticed, making it difficult to recommend to others. However, with its unique concept and potential for growth, it’s worth keeping an eye on as updates and improvements roll out.

Despite requiring an internet connection, Lies of Laughs appears to be a private, respecting the personal information of the user.

Burnout Buddy

Burnout Buddy is great!

Buddy makes Apple’s Screen Time much more useful for Full Grown Adults.
I don’t know about you, but every time I’ve tried using the Screen Time settings by themselves; I would always be interrupted in the middle of something, which is the point. But one thing would render the entire it useless, most of the time; The ability to skip that screen for 1 to 5 minutes, or Indefinitely. If you don’t have a Screen Time passcode in place, or you know the code, there’s literally no way for this screen to hinder you any more than a fly buzzing around your head.

This is where Burnout Buddy can help!

Our Buddy here features many tools to help people make use of Screen Time, to improve their phone usage.
They integrate with Apple’s ScreenTime API, which allows them to make use of the interface you’re already used to. This puts them a step ahead of many apps I’ve tried to solve the problems I had with Screen Time.
Buddy can make use of the usual blocking procedures, Schedule based and Usage based blocking. But it also boasts other procedures not usually available, all due to their integration with Apple’s Shortcuts. These include:

  • Focus-Mode based
  • Location based
  • and Siri based blocking

Shortcuts Integration, allows you to trigger a custom blocking condition based on events not normally supported by Screen Time. The main action toggles a switch on the blocking condition of your choosing, enabling it indefinitely, or vice-versa. This gives you a lot more control than would usually be possible.

Here’s a real world example:

You’ve been getting in trouble at work for scrolling through social media, or playing games. So you set up a Shortcuts Automation to automatically block the app/s in question when you arrive at work, and unblock them when you leave.

This is just one of many examples that I can think of, and countless more that I can’t.

THIS APP HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER!!!

There’s no account creation, along with complete privacy. Two things I really can’t complain about.
When creating a blocking condition, you’re not limited to using just Schedule, Usage, or Shortcuts based conditions. You can pick and choose to your hearts content, or even use all three in tandem!
You can set up multiple conditions, allowing you to block different groups under differing situations.
Burnout Buddy features a Strict Mode, which is completely separate from the indefinite blocking I mentioned earlier. While in this mode, you will not be able to change, or delete a condition while it’s active. This keeps you from wiggling your way around a blockage you put in place for yourself. This is especially useful when trying to overcome an addiction to games, or social media.
Your Buddy can send you notifications about specific events concerning your blocking conditions. – We’ll explore this in the Feature Rundown below
You can customize the blocking screen, so it’s a little bit more personal. This feature isn’t super robust, but it’s a lot more than I’m used to.
On top of everything else, Buddy also has custom App Icons, and HomeScreen Widgets that display active blocking conditions.

Now that I’ve talked your ear off about this great app here, let’s do a…

Done! – Tasks, Habits, and Calendars

Done! was so close

to replacing the default Reminders App, before the Apple made it way better.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

This app has a lot going in it’s favor, with a few big things going against it. With this in mind, let’s have a looksy!

The Good:

  • Done! boasts a lot of ways to manage, and made use of your tasks.
  • The App makes it easy to make new ones, and input the information you need, cutting a lot of extra steps out by the roots.
  • They have a ton of settings you can use to personalize the app to your needs.
  • You can view your schedule with Events, and Tasks on the same screen. – A common, but nice feature
  • They also have a focus, or excuse me… “Flow” timer, that gives you yet another choice when it comes to using their app to stay on task.
  • A Habit tracker that got good just after I jumped ship. – In other words, I can’t honestly rate this part of the app.
  • Personal Analytics of Tasks, and Habits completed over time.
  • This may no longer be the case, but the developers had an in-app feature request feature. – I made active use of this feature, and was pleasantly surprised to find many of my suggestions implemented.

Not too shabby, so why wouldn’t I just love this app?

Just for some context for what’s to follow, I used this app for around 4-6 years before I switched back to Apple’s Reminders App. This entire time, it may have received its 1.0 release, but it was still in a pre-release state. – The developers wanted to provide something with substance before asking for money. Which is part of the reason I liked their app so much.

Anyways, let’s take a look at…

The Bad:

  • When they finally felt like they could ask for money, the Developers didn’t grandfather anyone in, but instead offered a Limited-Time 50% off yearly premium deal. –  No lifetime for the people that gave feedback, and made the app what it had become.
    • Most of the features that kept me from using the Reminders Application instead were placed behind this new-found “Premium” wall. That’s the reason this change was such a big issue.
  • They could sometimes take years before even acknowledging feature requests that were heavily upvoted.

Pretty bad, but none of these are deal breakers, are they. Well now’s as good a time as any to see…

The Ugly:

  • This app integrated, at the very least loosely, with Apple Calendars, and Reminders. Yet still had the following:
    • Not a Single Connection was ever made with Apple’s Domains.
    • Almost constant connections with Google domains.
    • Regular contact with Facebook domains.
    • Regular contact with Yandex domains!!!
      • The Yandex search engine was created, and is managed by Russia.
        • Their attack on Ukraine is NOT why this is a problem. It’s because their reputation in “data privacy” isn’t the best.
    • The domains they contact are almost all ones I distrust.

Keep in mind that this is still a great app, and if you don’t mind the connections they make, I recommend it. But if you value your privacy, I highly recommend you steer clear of this one.

Note:
It’s been long enough since I used this app that I don’t feel comfortable breaking down its features.
If you want me to take another look at this app, please leave a comment.

With that out of the way, let’s take a more detailed look.

AppRaven: The iOS King

AppRaven is the best

when it comes to finding app deals, and wish-listing.

For years, I tried to find an app that would allow me to ease the process of wish-listing apps, or even keep track of their prices, but I couldn’t find one. Until I came across AppRaven.

Wallet Friendly:

This app boasts so many free features, that many users won’t need anything else. But if you’re wanting more, there is an option to pay for some more advanced features.

Share Sheet Action:

Say you find an app that you’d like to purchase from the App Store, but it’s too pricey. Luckily, there’s a share sheet action that allows you to easily open the app over in AppRaven. This takes a lot of steps out of the way, and makes it much quicker to add an app to your wishlist, which will then notify you if the price changes.

App Search:

If you don’t have the patience to wait, AppRaven has a large selection of user created collections to browse through, along with such a robust search feature, that it should be a piece of cake to find a good alternative.

AppRaven’s Community view has both:

  1. A constantly updated list of user comments
  2. And a list of Groups which contains a lot of different categories to discuss with people. This includes:
    • A dedicated Bug Report group, that the Developer regularly responds to.
    • A Feature Request Group
    • And many more.

The Developer

Has been surprisingly responsive, and active on the app.

Now that I’ve gotten my thoughts out of the way, here’s the nitty-gritty details.
