Done! – Tasks, Habits, and Calendars
Done! was so close
to replacing the default Reminders App, before the Apple made it way better.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
This app has a lot going in it’s favor, with a few big things going against it. With this in mind, let’s have a looksy!
The Good:
- Done! boasts a lot of ways to manage, and made use of your tasks.
- The App makes it easy to make new ones, and input the information you need, cutting a lot of extra steps out by the roots.
- They have a ton of settings you can use to personalize the app to your needs.
- You can view your schedule with Events, and Tasks on the same screen. – A common, but nice feature
- They also have a focus, or excuse me… “Flow” timer, that gives you yet another choice when it comes to using their app to stay on task.
- A Habit tracker that got good just after I jumped ship. – In other words, I can’t honestly rate this part of the app.
- Personal Analytics of Tasks, and Habits completed over time.
- This may no longer be the case, but the developers had an in-app feature request feature. – I made active use of this feature, and was pleasantly surprised to find many of my suggestions implemented.
Not too shabby, so why wouldn’t I just love this app?
Just for some context for what’s to follow, I used this app for around 4-6 years before I switched back to Apple’s Reminders App. This entire time, it may have received its 1.0 release, but it was still in a pre-release state. – The developers wanted to provide something with substance before asking for money. Which is part of the reason I liked their app so much.
Anyways, let’s take a look at…
The Bad:
- When they finally felt like they could ask for money, the Developers didn’t grandfather anyone in, but instead offered a Limited-Time 50% off yearly premium deal. – No lifetime for the people that gave feedback, and made the app what it had become.
- Most of the features that kept me from using the Reminders Application instead were placed behind this new-found “Premium” wall. That’s the reason this change was such a big issue.
- They could sometimes take years before even acknowledging feature requests that were heavily upvoted.
Pretty bad, but none of these are deal breakers, are they. Well now’s as good a time as any to see…
The Ugly:
- This app integrated, at the very least loosely, with Apple Calendars, and Reminders. Yet still had the following:
- Not a Single Connection was ever made with Apple’s Domains.
- Almost constant connections with Google domains.
- Regular contact with Facebook domains.
- Regular contact with Yandex domains!!!
- The Yandex search engine was created, and is managed by Russia.
- Their attack on Ukraine is NOT why this is a problem. It’s because their reputation in “data privacy” isn’t the best.
- The Yandex search engine was created, and is managed by Russia.
- The domains they contact are almost all ones I distrust.
Keep in mind that this is still a great app, and if you don’t mind the connections they make, I recommend it. But if you value your privacy, I highly recommend you steer clear of this one.
Note:
It’s been long enough since I used this app that I don’t feel comfortable breaking down its features.
If you want me to take another look at this app, please leave a comment.
With that out of the way, let’s take a more detailed look.
